Turn your home into a smart asset

Your home is your biggest asset — now’s the time to make it work smarter

We’re in a unique moment for homeowners. Housing values are rising, energy costs are poised to increase even faster, and weather-related power outages are becoming more frequent. At the same time, rooftop solar is more affordable, attractive, and valuable than ever before. So the question is no longer, “Should I go solar?” It’s, “Why wouldn’t I invest in my home while the timing is this good?”

A rare window of opportunity

In June 2025, the median U.S. home price reached $447,000, continuing its steady climb. Homeowners across the country are watching their equity grow, and many are taking advantage of that growth to make meaningful upgrades.

Solar is one of the most beneficial of those upgrades. It doesn’t just cut monthly costs; it transforms your home into something smarter, more resilient, and more future-ready. It’s an investment in the life you want, not just the bills you don’t.

And it’s an investment Americans are actively considering. After the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB), clean energy policy quickly became a national conversation — especially among millennials and parents of young children, who are both highly motivated to secure stability and resilience at home.

It has also added urgency to the conversation, since it ends some popular solar incentives earlier than scheduled. (For more specifics, see our blog “Why now is the best time to go solar: What recent policy changes mean for you.”) In fact, nearly half of those concerned about clean energy restrictions under the bill have kids under 25 at home. This is a good reminder that this moment isn’t just about saving money, it’s about safeguarding your family’s future.

The data: Homeowners are already taking action

Aurora Solar surveyed 1,000 Americans immediately following the passing of the OBBB about how they’re reacting to new federal policy changes. Even with some uncertainty, homeowners aren’t hesitating:

  • 34% are more likely to go solar in the next 1–2 years due to the recent law
  • 55% say they’d move faster if incentives were phased out
  • 44% want at least a 30% tax credit to take the leap
  • Over 1 in 4 are already in discussions with solar contractors about upgrades

In short: people aren’t sitting on the sidelines. They’re thinking ahead, both financially and emotionally. That includes 17% of Americans who say they’re highly motivated to install solar panels, and another 17% who want to act before incentives disappear. Put another way, more than one-third of homeowners are already thinking about solar with real urgency.

And 26% have already started talking to contractors about what home upgrades make sense in this moment of policy change, proof that the idea is no longer hypothetical. It’s happening now.

It’s more than savings: It’s peace of mind

If you’ve ever experienced a blackout during extreme heat or cold, or opened a power bill that made your jaw drop, you know how much we rely on our homes to simply work. Solar gives you more than savings:

  • Resilience during grid outages, when combined with battery storage
  • Predictable energy costs even as utility rates spike
  • Sustainability without sacrificing comfort

It makes sense, then, that interest in battery storage is also rising fast: 27% of Americans say they’re now interested in adding it to their homes. Not only does battery storage help keep the lights on during power outages, it can now help you save even more money depending on where you live.

And when it’s time to sell? A solar-equipped home stands out: Some studies show that it can boost a home’s value

The bottom line: Now is the time to upgrade

You’ve built equity. The housing market is still moving. But energy prices and weather patterns? Those aren’t playing nice. So why not turn your biggest asset — your home — into your smartest one before incentives expire?

Investing in solar today is an investment in your comfort, your control, your climate footprint, and your financial future.
