How to find a solar installer you can trust

If you’re curious about solar but hesitant to take the leap, you’re not alone. One of the biggest questions potential solar customers face isn’t about the technology, it’s about who they can trust to install it.

To help get a better feel for what can help, we conducted a survey of 1,000 U.S. consumers in August 2025, including many who still feel uncertain about navigating the process. It showed that while 35 percent of Americans are interested in rooftop solar, about a third reported less-than-ideal interactions with solar professionals — most often because cost concerns weren’t clearly addressed or the details weren’t explained well enough.

In this article:

Why trust matters

More than half of consumers say they’d feel more comfortable if installers shared realistic costs, savings, and timelines upfront. When those details aren’t clear, it’s hard to feel confident you’re making the right choice.

Survey insight: 56 percent of consumers say transparent pricing is the #1 factor in building trust. That means the key to going solar isn’t just picking a design, it’s choosing a partner you can rely on.

The good news: solar still pays off

Despite these concerns, the benefits of solar are undeniable. Nearly 40 percent of consumers say saving money on rising utility costs is their top motivator.

Others highlight the peace of mind that comes with energy independence, the ability to keep the lights on during outages (when combined with battery storage), and the chance to lock in long-term savings while incentives last. With the right installer, solar isn’t just a home upgrade: it’s a pathway to resilience and financial stability.

How to make sure you’re working with a trusted installer

Here are three steps to make the process smoother and give you confidence in your decision:

  1. Do your homework: Look for installers with a proven track record in your area, plenty of recent positive reviews, and clear evidence of completed projects.
  2. Ask for clarity: A trustworthy installer will provide a detailed proposal that breaks down equipment, installation costs, financing options, and projected savings with no hidden fees or vague promises.
  3. Compare your options: Use online marketplaces to see multiple quotes side by side so you know you’re choosing not only the best price, but the best partner.

The bottom line

Solar is one of the smartest investments you can make for your home. By asking the right questions and using tools that highlight trusted professionals, you can go solar with total confidence.

At Aurora Solar, we believe homeowners deserve to make solar decisions with clarity and peace of mind. That’s why the Aurora Solar Marketplace makes it easy to compare vetted installers, understand costs, and find the best fit for your home.
